Hikari TV Award
This award will be presented to a director from the Japan Competition. The winner will be chosen based on who they consider has the best ability to deliver the allure of 4K. The chosen winner will be given the chance to direct a 4K original short film with NTT Plala.
This award will be given to the films awarded Best Short in both the Asia International and Japan Competitions.
Audience Award
Audience members will vote to give the award to one winner from the each of the main competition categories listed.
Prize: 200,000 yen
Best Actor/Best Actress
Winners will be selected from each of the three official competitions (International, Asia International & Japan Competition).

Non-Fiction Competition
supported by Yahoo Japan Corporation
In 2018, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of SSFF & ASIA, we established the brand new "Non-fiction Competition supported by Yahoo Japan Corporation." The festival has received more than 10,000 submissions from over 120 countries. Being an Academy Awards® accredited short film festival has allowed us to present this competition, which will let the audience experience the power of visual images.
Best Short Award

This is an award given to the best film selected from the nominees. The winning film will be eligible for an Academy Awards® nomination in one of the short film categories the following year.

CG Animation Competition
The CG Competition began in 2011 and offers a chance to enjoy CG animation shorts.
Best Short Award
This award will be given to the best film in the CG Animation Competition chosen by the 3 jury memebers, together with Digital Hollywood Co.,Ltd. and the Committee for Short Shorts.
Prize: 600,000 yen
Save the Earth! Competition supported by RINREI
This competition was launched with the Ministry of the Environment (Japan) in 2008. It gathers a wide variety of films that approach environmental issues and offer enlightening ideas about protecting the environment. RINREI WAX CO.,LTD. has supported this competition since 2017.
Best Short Award (Minister’s Award, the Ministry of Environment)This award will be given to the best film in the Save the Earth! Competition by RINREI as chosen by the three jury members.
Prize: 500,000 yen
J-WAVE Award
J-WAVE listeners will select the award winner from the Save the Earth! Competition by RINREI.

Cinematic Tokyo Competition
Established in 2017, the Cinematic Tokyo Competition introduces short films that take "Tokyo" as their subject. It shows the many attractions that Tokyo has to offer.
Best Short Award
This award will be given to the best film in the Cinematic Tokyo Competition. The Governor of Tokyo Award is also given to this film. Prize:

U-25 Project
supported by Nihon Safety
Established in 2019. In order to support young filmmakers in Japan, we called for short films of less than 5 minutes, produced by directors under 25 years old.
Nominated films will be screened online during the festival, and selected directors will be invited to the festival's ceremonies and events.
Best Short Award
This award will be given to the best film in the U-25 Project supported by Nihon Safety.
Prize: 100,000 yen
BRANDED SHORTS
This is a category for movies that are produced with the goal of communicating with customers, and promoting the brands of companies and organizations, otherwise known as branded movies.
Branded Shorts of the Year
International Category
This award will be given to the best film made abroad, and will be judged on 7 criteria—cinematic, storytelling, emotional appeal, idea, originality, shearable and branding power.

National Category
This award will be given to the best film made abroad, and will be judged on 7 criteria—cinematic, storytelling, emotional appeal, idea, originality, shearable and branding power.
SUNRISE CineAD Award
SUNRISE Company Limited, with their philosophy "make movies a communication medium," specialize exclusively in cinema related advertising and promotional opportunities.
BRANDED SHORTS and SUNRISE intend to develop branded movies as "advertisements that move people", and which produce value for consumers with the power of storytelling and entertainment while reflecting on a brand's message. With this, the SUNRISE CineAD Award has been established, which will be awarded to the most cinematic branded movie.
Considering that all conditions are satisfied, the winning work will be given an advertising spot and will be screened in cinemas across Japan.
Book Short Award
An award given to a literature-related short film. It’s a year-round project where we publicly seek out short novels based on fairy tales, old stories, folk tales, and novels.
Best Award
We will give the award to one work selected from the monthly best works. Prize: 1,000,000 yen, and the work will be made into a short film.
The Visual Tourism Award Project
A selection of tourism promotion videos, films and movie clips created in 47 prefectures nationwide. The award will be given to the film that has rich creativity, promotional aspects and topicality with the aim of “Tourism Promotion”.

Japan Tourism Agency Commisioner's Award
The Visual Tourism Award (Japan Tourism Agency Commisioner's Award) will be honored to the film that has rich creativity, promotional aspects and topicality with the aim of "Tourism Promotion"
The International Visual Tourism Award Project
This award is honored to a promotional tourism video / movie clip of a country outside of Japan. By learning from foreign practices, we aim to help improve domestic regional promotion videos. This award is given only to films created outside of Japan.
Visual Tourism International Award
The ambassadors of VISIT JAPAN selects the best regionally promotional foreign films that has the potential to improve tourism in Japan.
Other Awards
Shibuya Diversity Award
This award will be given to a work chosen from a selection of films that picture diversity and inclusion, which are part of the educational activities to spread the fundamental plan of Shibuya City.
Kawagoe City Short Film Award
A competition for movies only filmed in the Kawagoe area. It's aims to discover the local attractiveness and spreads this through movies.
