Comments from the Cinematic Tokyo Best Short Award winner has arrived!
We received comments from this year’s Cinematic Tokyo Competition Best Short Award winner!
Congratulations Kai!
Cinematic Tokyo Competition Best Short Award
“Robu”
Director: Kai Hasson
Q: Please share your comments for winning this award.
A:
My team loved the Short Shorts Film Festival this year and it means so much to be recognized for our work. Our program was filled with wonderful films about the city of Tokyo, and it was special to just be part of the program. Winning the Cinematic Tokyo Best Short Award is a true honor. And it will inspire us to keep shooting in Tokyo, a city that we love.
Q: Anything you would like to share about your film?
A:
My Producer Kenji Green and I are both half-Japanese, with Japanese mothers and American fathers. The dual nature of our backgrounds definitely played a role in our choice of story and how we told it. (Our other partner Elyse Preiss is 100% American but loves Japan!).
Q: Any filmmakers or films that have inspired your work?
A:
Wong Kar Wai’s “Happy Together” is a true inspiration for me. This was a Hong Kong filmmaker telling a story that really brought Buenos Aires, a city on the other side of the world, to life. It gave me motivation to tell a story in Tokyo.
We will keep you posted with more award comments in the following days!
